Postdoctoral fellow in soft X-ray microscopy

 

Position: Affiliated with the Department of Chemistry and the Brockhouse Institute for Materials Research at McMaster University, the holder of this position would be stationed at the Advanced Light Source, Berkeley, CA. He/she would carry out research on a variety of fundamental and applied projects in polymer science and environmental science, in collaboration with members of the Hitchcock group and others. Most of the work will involve using a dedicated scanning transmission X-ray microscope (STXM). In addition there will be significant time to develop an independent research program using STXM microscopy. Development of new in situ methods would be strongly encouraged, as would involvement in ongoing instrumentation development in tomography and novel detection technqiues (dark field, ptycography etc)

An ability to work independently, with good oral and written communication skills is essential. You will be expected to communicate and collaborate with a diverse set of collaborators. Prior experience in X-ray microscopy is not required. Familiarity with polymer or environmental science, soft X-ray absorption spectroscopy (NEXAFS ), and/or the synchrotron environment are useful assets.

Requirements: I am specifically seeking a recent graduate, although particularly appropriate more senior candidates will also be considered. If you will graduate in the spring of 2009, this may also be suitable.
