Staff Scientist - X-ray Microscopy

 

A staff scientist is required to commission and operate a synchrotron x-ray photoelectron emission microscope (X-PEEM).

Qualifications: Ph.D. in chemistry, physics, materials science, or a related area.

 Experience:

Required Skills:  Experience with standard ultrahigh vacuum technologies, surface science

Useful skills: electronics and interfacing, computer programming, x-ray microscopy, and X-ray absorption spectroscopy.

 Job Description:

The staff scientist will commission, maintain, and assist users in carrying out research on a synchrotron x-ray photoelectron emission microscope (X-PEEM), initially to be based at the Synchrotron Radiation Centre (SRC), in Stoughton, WI, but to be moved to the Canadian Light Source in 2004. Development of an independent scientific program will be encouraged.

 The duties of this staff scientist will include:

·       Commissioning and maintaining the X-PEEM microscope, in collaboration with the principle investigators

·       Development and documentation of operational procedures

·       Training and support for microscope users

·       Carry out research using this facility, including the employee’s own research interests

Remuneration will be based on the qualification of the successful applicant.
