Lab Manager

 

A research scientist is required with a long term committment to assist with the research program of the Hitchcock group.

Qualifications: Ph.D. in chemistry or physics.

 Experience:

Required Skills:  Experience with electron impact and synchrotron based instrumentation and techniques. Ability to provide technical support for home built ultrahigh vacuum instrumentation, electronics, interfacing, and computer networking.

Useful skills: Background in research closely allied to the research interests of the Hitchcock group in high energy electron impact spectroscopy, X-ray absorption spectroscopy and/or coincidence techniques.

 Job Description:

The principle responsibility will be to support the activities of the research group members at a detailed technical level, and to provide mentoring for students and postdocs in the absence of Professor Hitchcock. You will be expected to choose one or a small number of our project areas to develop your own research program, while at the same time retaining contact with the range of projects across the group. The emphasis will be on McMaster based electron impact techniques but, if you are interested, participation or dvelopment of new projects in synchrotorn research is possible. You will be based in Hamilton.

Remuneration will be based on the qualification of the successful applicant.
